Rickettsia Amblyommatis
Rickettsia amblyommatis belongs to the spotted fever group of Rickettsia and infects Lone Star Ticks (Amblyomma americanum) for transmission to offspring and mammals.
Historically, the geographic range was restricted to the southeastern USA. However, recent tick surveys identified the progressive northward invasion, contributing to the increased number of patients with febrile illnesses of unknown etiology after a tick bite in the northeastern USA.
Rickettsia Amblyommatis Symptoms
A sore covered by a black scab (eschar) may form at the site of the bite. Because the rash often does not appear for several days, early rickettsial infection is often mistaken for a common viral infection, such as influenza.
Several days after an eschar appears, the following symptoms can develop: Fever, Headache, Rash (sparse maculopapular or papulovesicular eruptions on the trunk and extremities), and Muscle aches.
